WEG has announced its participation in Machine Building Live 2024, taking place at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham, on Wednesday October 2, 2024. At stand 17, WEG will display its latest product innovations, including the W23 Sync+ motor paired with a CFW500 VSD and WEG Motor Scan technology.

The W23 Sync+ ULTRA motor by WEG is a highly efficient electric motor, which is expected to achieve the anticipated IE6 efficiency rating, surpassing the limits of traditional induction motors. It features advanced synchronous motor technology, designed to handle high inrush current when combined with specialised starter mechanisms and protection systems.

“The W23 Sync+’s compact design allows easy integration into existing setups, making it suitable for a wide range of applications such as compressors, pumps, fans and conveyors,” said Russell Maccabe, UK Sales Manager at WEG. “When combined with the CFW500 VSD, the W23 Sync+ motor offers superior control and energy savings, contributing to safer and more energy efficient industrial operations.”

The CFW500 drive’s built-in safety functions, such as Safe Torque Off (STO) and Safe Stop 1 Time Controlled (SS1-t), allow for controlled shutdowns in case of faults, minimising damage to equipment and reducing risks to personnel. The functions reduce the need for external safety devices and streamline installations.

In addition, WEG will showcase WEGSEE+, an intuitive energy management tool that allows operators to simulate energy-saving projects and assess their return on investment. WEGSEE+ empowers customers to take control of their energy usage, helping them to reduce costs and environmental impact.

Programmable logic controller (PLC) solutions

WEG’s specialists will also be on hand to discuss its existing PLC200 and PLC410 PLCs and offer information on the forthcoming PLC500 series. The PLC500 achieves superior performance, connectivity and energy efficiency through its powerful dual-core ARM Cortex processors, modular design for scalability and advanced real-time Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring and predictive maintenance tools.

“Our PLC500 series builds on the success of our earlier models, delivering significant advancements in performance and scalability,” Maccabe explained. “The PLC500’s features enable it to handle complex tasks, integrate seamlessly with multiple communication protocols and optimise energy usage in industrial automation environments.”

Additionally, WEG will showcase the WEG Motor Scan, a sensor-based solution for predictive maintenance. It monitors electric motors in real-time, tracking vibrations, temperatures and running hours to foresee potential failures and prevent unplanned downtime. WEG will also highlight the WEG Motion Fleet Management (MFM) system, which provides cloud-based monitoring for a range of assets. This system enhances maintenance efficiency, reduces unexpected stoppages and improves overall fleet availability.

Machine Building Live 2024 is an essential event for professionals in the automation and machine building sectors, offering free entry, easy access — and a chance to explore the National Motorcycle Museum’s collection.
