NordVPN adds cyber insurance benefits to its cybersecurity toolkit

Customers in the United Kingdom affected by scam loss and online shopping fraud can already get a reimbursement of up to £5,000.

NordVPN taps into the cyber insurance market to obtain essential cyber insurance benefits for its customers in selected markets starting with the United Kingdom and the United States. By partnering with select insurance companies, NordVPN continues to bridge the cyber protection gap and support its customers affected by cybercriminals.

Cyber insurance benefits are included in the NordVPN Ultimate bundle subscription plan, together with the virtual private service NordVPN, the password manager NordPass, and other advanced features, without costing anything extra.

Especially considering that tactics used by cybercriminals are becoming more sophisticated, even cyber-savvy users sometimes get tripped up. With the development of artificial intelligence tools, various scams are rising with more people getting affected each year. According to a survey by NordVPN, in the United Kingdom alone, 24% of the population have experienced an online shopping scam, which amounts to approximately 12 million people. One in five scam victims suffered over a £1,000 financial loss.

Cyber insurance benefits included in NordVPN bundles for customers in the United Kingdom cover scam loss recovery and online shopping fraud recovery. Scam loss recovery provides reimbursement when a user has transferred funds from a personal account in response to a cyber scam, whereby a victim has been tricked into opening or responding to emails, text messages, and phone calls that appeared to be from legitimate entities or known and trusted people.

Similarly, online shopping fraud recovery provides reimbursement when a user has purchased eligible items or services online from a website or trading platform that turned out to be fraudulent.

Customers can claim reimbursements of up to £5,000 in a 12-month period, if they have not been able to recover the lost monies via their bank, credit card company, or other finance provider. Cyber insurance benefits cover affected customers worldwide and 24/7.

While NordVPN is exploring possibilities of adding cyber insurance benefits to packages offered in other markets, they are currently available only to customers residing in the United Kingdom and the United States. Cyber insurance benefits for customers in the United States include identity theft recovery and cyber extortion protection benefits.
