Another year is almost over with the festive period looming large. As we head towards 2025, let’s take a look back at some of MVPro Media’s highlights from 2024.
A key focus for us this year has been our exclusive interviews at trade shows. While at the immensely successful VISION show in Messe Stuttgart, we recorded 26 video interviews across three days, allowing us to introduce our readers to a host of new technologies. We spoke to LMI Technologies’ Len Chamberlain about their GoPxL embedded software application, Specim’s Minna Törmälä showed us their hyperspectral camera range, and Zebra’s Ivar Keulers walked us through his company’s deep learning solutions. Elsewhere, two visits to Teledyne’s expansive booth allowed us to see their Bumblebee X 5GigE stereo vision solution and their Optimum 5D technology.
At the MVTec Software booth, Markus Setzer showcased the latest HALCON and MERLIC software versions, highlighting a quality inspection demo with wafers. We also visited Basler, where Business Development Manager Thomas Karow demonstrated their new 8K Racer L line scan camera and four-channel CXP-12 frame grabber, emphasising the benefit of real pre-processing. Product Group Architect Pauline Lux presented a smart football table using Pylon AI to detect ball speed, and Product Manager Kathrin Martens discussed their warehouse automation solution, featuring Smart ToF cameras and stereo vision systems.
At LUCID Vision Labs, General Manager Torsten Wiesinger provided demos of their 10GigE Triton camera and event-based sensor technology, ideal for fast-motion applications. Finally, we visited FRAMOS, where Director Nathan Dinning highlighted their partnership with Sony, showcasing the IMX 811 sensor.
We also caught up with the likes of Midopt, Pleora Technologies, Edmund Optics, Photoneo, and many more.
Prior to VISION, we attended the Pre-VISION press event, which included a fascinating CEO round table discussion. There, representatives from BASLER AG, MVTec Software, Teledyne GmbH, and the VDMA Machine Vision Division explored the challenges and opportunities faced in the machine vision industry.
MVPro Media’s CEO Alex Sullivan spoke with several of these industry leaders. Dr. Olaf Munkelt of MVTec Software highlighted the tough market conditions but pointed to growth areas in pharmaceuticals and agriculture. The EMVA’s Oliver Scheel expressed optimism for VISION 2024. Raoul Kimmelmann from RAUSCHER stressed the importance of personal contact at events such as VISION, while Messe Stuttgart’s Jacqueline Roth shared her excitement for the event.
Elsewhere, we also attended the much-anticipated Automate show in Chicago back in May. There, we produced a series of written interviews with a host of innovators. This included Zebra Technologies’ Laurie Partington, who discussed the diverse range of solutions her company offers, while Opto Engineering’s Gregory Harrison explained their focus on liquid lenses, and Baumer’s Roger Altendorf highlighted their portfolio of sensors and cameras.
Another key focus for us this year has been our regular CEO interview series. Throughout 2024, we conducted exclusive interviews with CEOs from leading companies in machine vision and image processing. These interviews gave the CEOs the opportunity to tell us more about their journeys, along with outlining their companies’ main products, and how their solutions boost efficiency for a host of sectors. The CEOs also shared their predictions for the future of the industry.
We started off with Photoneo’s Werner Müller-Veith, before speaking to Samuel Sadoulet of Edmund Optics. Then, Specim’s Tapio Kallonen outlined what sets his company apart, MVTec Software’s Olaf Munkelt discussed deep learning, Mark Radford of LMI Technologies talked about their flagship smart sensors, and IDS’ Jan Hartmann predicted a growth in the battery inspection market. Finally, e-con Systems’ Maharajan Veerabahu, TM Robotics’ Nigel Smith, and Hongsuk Lee of Neurocle provided their insights. Each interview provides valuable perspectives on the ongoing developments and challenges in machine vision.
Throughout the year, we produced a series of magazines, all featuring exclusive interviews, and a roundup of the latest products. Our first digital issue of the year included an interview with Messe Stuttgart’s Florian Niethammer, while May’s issue was an exciting print issue which was distributed at Automate, Automation UK, and the EMVA Business Conference. July’s issue included an in-depth roundup of Zebra Technologies’ webinar, October’s special print edition was delivered to VISION and gave attendees an abundance of information on the trade show, while our final issue of the year allowed us to reflect on VISION and reveal how machine vision can benefit battery development and warehouse productivity.
Lastly, we took the time this year to provide deep dives into the industry. Firstly, we explored artificial intelligence, assessing how AI has, and will continue, to play a key role in machine vision. After that, we looked at the growing hyperspectral imaging market, revealing the financial state of the market, along with the ways in which hyperspectral imaging is used in machine vision.
We would like to thank everyone who took part in our interviews, and hope our readers enjoyed reading them as much as we enjoyed producing them. We look forward to bringing you more exciting content in 2025!
