VISION Guided Tours providing industry-specific insights

VISION Tour

Three tours for key target industries in the machine vision sector / Compact programme with exclusive presentations at selected exhibition stands.

The guided tours organised during VISION will give visitors the opportunity to find out about the latest machine vision trends in logistics, the food & beverages industries and the electronics & semiconductor sector, as well as gain exclusive insights into specific approaches at selected stands. The participating companies will be showcasing their latest technological developments and demonstrating the solutions provided by machine vision in the respective sectors.

“Machine vision enables machinery to see – just as well or even better than us ‘visual humans’. The areas in which it can be applied vary widely,” explains Dr.-Ing. Ronald Müller, Managing Director of Vision Markets and organiser of the Guided Tours. “We are deliberately focussing on the three key target markets, with the tours tailored to the requirements of those involved here. Taking just half a day, our Guided Tours are packed full of information and provide plenty of opportunities to make valuable contacts – with an easy-to-follow crash course, eight live demonstrations showcasing the latest innovative thinking, as well as handouts and a networking lunch.”

Potential for greater efficiency and value creation
Logistics is one of the most important branches of industry and relevant across the board. However, it needs to be more efficient and more sustainable. The use of automation in the intralogistics sector presents one such solution. Processes benefit here from the use of industrial image processing, such as machine vision systems and deep learning technologies. In the food & beverages  industries, there is a growing need for high-capacity production that is both cost-effective and error-free. This industry is benefiting greatly from the wealth of opportunities presented by artificial intelligence (AI), which is therefore also a priority of the VISION Guided Tours.

Independent production of electronics and semiconductors
From the high-precision inspection of microchips to productivity in electronics manufacturing: when it comes to electronics and semiconductors, machine vision offers great potential for meeting ever changing requirements, including, among other things, an extensive expansion of production capacities beyond China and Taiwan. On the VISION Guided Tours, participants will have the chance to explore new solutions for quality inspections, process optimisation, fault repair and automation.

Robot-assisted depalletising in practice
Machine vision is essential for the automation of logistics processes such as sorting, depalletising and quality control. With its help, robots can precisely identify and localise items. This increases the speed and precision of tasks such as unloading, picking and placing items on conveyor belts or in warehouses. With advanced 3D vision systems, machine vision reduces labour costs, increases throughput and ensures real-time decisions in dynamic environments.

Participants in the Guided Tour Logistics will receive first-hand information on the latest technical developments in this field. Photoneo and its partner Rebl Industries will be presenting a real production scenario at their stand: robot-assisted advanced depalletising. “Utilizing Photoneo’s PhoXi 3D Scanner and AI-driven picking, the system performs fast and precise localisation, handling up to 1,300 packages per hour depending on size and weight,” explains Werner Mueller-Veith, CEO of Photoneo. “It offers a scalable and user-friendly approach that can be easily adapted to specific operational requirements through a robot-as-a-service model. Fast localisation, powered by Photoneo’s AI 3D vision, ensures accurate object detection enabling the handling of different carton types and sizes.”

Facilitating inspections in food production
An exciting destination of the Guided Tour Food & Beverages is Opto Engineering. The company designs, manufactures and markets imaging components, including innovative 360° view optics, where one image is enough to view the top and side or inside of an objectwith a single camera, thus enabling simple all-round inspections in the food and beverage industry.

The use of these optics avoids complex and bulky multi-camera systems and the rotation of parts, saving time spent on synchronization and image processing via software with other systems“360° imaging is the basis for a perfect balance between performance, throughput and cost efficiency,” says Massimo Castelletti, Head of Marketing at Opto Engineering. “During the tour, booth guests will have the opportunity to see some of our most innovative 360° lenses in action, including the HC hypercentric lenses, PCCDL catadioptric lenses and PCHIL hole inspection lenses, and learn about the most common applications these can solve.”

AI in the electronics and semiconductor industry
Participants of the Guided Tour Electronics & Semiconductor can expect not one but two live demos at the AiRob Vision Systems stand. The modular NEST robot station with its state-of-the-art AI-supported vision systems is one solution that will be presented. It forms the basis for modern production lines and paves the way for a quick adaptation of production processes to changing market conditions. The other demonstration will involve VIS Expert, an integrated quality assurance system for the assembly of electronic THT components. VIS Expert stations are combined in an intelligent eco-system, which is based on a central, AI-supported factory server and a network of cameras at key production locations. This allows for the monitoring of the production process in real time and the immediate identification of any errors. This solution was selected as one of five finalists for the renowned VISION Award.

“The electronics industry is one of the most dynamic and innovative sectors in which machine vision plays a decisive role, facilitating as it does precise inspection, quality control and fault recognition,” says Dariusz Hebisz, CEO of AiRob Vision Systems. “We are delighted to have this opportunity to demonstrate the latest technology in this segment to those taking part in the Guided Tours.”

The Guided Tour Logistics will take place on 8 October, the Guided Tour Food & Beverages on 9 October and the Guided Tour Electronics & Semiconductor on 10 October. Each tour will start at 10:30 am and finish at 13:00, leaving participants plenty of time to browse the event afterwards at their leisure. All Guided Tours will be held in English and are exclusively available to visitors of VISION. Participation is free of charge and the number of places is limited. Further information, as well as the opportunity to register, can be found on the VISION website.
