VISION 2024: Exclusive interviews, product demonstrations, and more!

VISION 2024

As part of our recent MVPro Magazine issue, we looked back at another successful VISION show. We at MVPro Media once again greatly enjoyed our time at the highly-anticipated trade show in Messe Stuttgart, where we were fortunate enough to see some of the industry’s leading innovators present their exciting new solutions.

Over three days, 483 exhibitors from 38 countries presented their solutions to more than 8,000 visitors. To accommodate the increased number of exhibitors and visitors, the exhibition area increased by 16%.

VISION 2024 attracted visitors from more than 65 countries worldwide, representing a variety of sectors, such as electrical engineering, automotive, semiconductor production, food and beverage, and many more.

After the show, we caught up with Florian Niethammer, Head of Exhibitions and Events at Messe Stuttgart, to find out his thoughts on this year’s VISION show.

He revealed that his personal highlight this year was seeing how much effort the exhibitors made to bring machine vision applications for such a wide range of sectors, from battery production to logistics, food and beverage, and semiconductors.

“The Guided Tours we offered for specific user industries underlined this approach,” Florian said. “They were highly successful and very much appreciated by the attendees who took part, so I am sure that this is a very successful path to develop VISION in further years.”

This year’s VISION show was highly successful, with Florian revealing that exhibitors made it the largest VISION show ever. “Never before have so many newbies joined the show, with more than 160 companies, so one-third of all companies were new to VISION, Florian said. “Seeing this huge number of new exhibiting companies and innovative start-ups join the show for the first time was my second personal highlight.”

“We were also really happy to see an increase in attendance by 23% compared to the previous show,” he added. “This is why we want to thank the industry and all of our partners for their trust in VISION and for their strong support and commitment to the show.”

Florian concluded by drawing attention to the VISION Days presentations, which are available to watch free-of-charge on demand, for anyone who may have missed them or would like to watch them again.

“Mark your calendars already for the next VISION show,” Florian concluded. “It will then take place from 6-8 October 2026.”

Highlights from our VISION video interview series

During our time at VISION, we visited countless booths, where we spoke with some of the industry’s key players. There, we recorded a series of exclusive video interviews, allowing representatives to present their company’s latest innovations and demonstrate how their solutions are transforming the world of machine vision.

We kicked things off with a visit to LMI Technologies’ booth, where Chief Commercial Officer Len Chamberlain showed us his company’s GoPxL embedded software application. “GoPxL was designed to be able to combine technologies from a number of different sensors to produce a complete 3D inspection,” Len said. “GoPxL incorporates a number of AI elements (…) for things like anomaly detection and feature detection.”

We then ventured to the Specim booth. We spoke to Minna Törmälä, their Global Marketing Manager. Minna walked us through Specim’s GX17 NIR infrared hyperspectral camera, which can identify objects which are invisible to the human eye. Specim also presented its Specim One solution, an all-in-one platform which features cameras and integrated software. “[Specim One] includes the camera and spectral data analysing software to analyse the data and make models, as well as a data processing platform,” Minna explained.

An early highlight was our visit to the Zebra Technologies stand, where we caught up with Ivar Keulers, Machine Vision Solutions Engineering Manager at Zebra Technologies. Ivar showed us Zebra’s deep learning solutions for rapid anomaly detection and their range of 3D cameras. He also talked us through their PC-based solution for OCR reading on metal parts, saying, “It is trained in over 20,000 fonts to be able to read text out of the box, so there is no learning on the job when you put the application in the field.”

Elsewhere at the MVTec Software booth, their Marketing of Complex Software & Moderator of Events, Markus Setzer walked us through the latest versions of their HALCON and MERLIC software, along with a quality inspection demonstration involving wafers.

We also greatly enjoyed our visits to the expansive Teledyne booth. We first spoke with Sadiq Panjwani, Teledyne FLIR’s Vice President and General Manager in the Integrated Imaging Solutions Division. Sadiq introduced us to SightBase, their online SaaS platform which reduces time and cost for customers. Also on show was the Bumblebee X 5GigE stereo vision solution, which Sadiq said is capable of “processing an image and understanding a 3D Cloud at a pace which is as fast as a robotic arm.”

Soon after, we returned to Teledyne’s stand to catch up with Laurent Appercel, Senior Marketing Manager of Teledyne e2v. Laurent showed us the first-of-its-kind implementation of their Optimum 5D technology, which processes a 3D depth map in real time, using dedicated Software Development Kits on a host processor.

We also made several visits to Basler’s booth, where we were fortunate enough to interview several representatives, each of whom had some exciting products to show us. Firstly, Business Development Manager Thomas Karow demonstrated Basler’s new 8K Racer L line scan camera and their four-channel CXP-12 frame grabber, in conjunction with their VisualApplets and Pylon AI software tools. “The benefit here for the customer is that there is real pre-processing,” Thomas added.

Then, Pauline Lux (Product Group Architect) presented a smart football table, which utilised the Pylon AI platform to detect the speed of the balls. Lastly, Kathrin Martens (Product Manager) guides us through their warehouse automation solution, using a Smart ToF camera and their Ace2 Pro, along with two stereo vision solutions; one comes equipped with picking solution software, while the other boasts 5-megapixel resolution. Kathrin added, “When it comes to what the customer needs we can provide either a really impressive image or a great to use software application.”

Our readers will no doubt be familiar with LUCID Vision Labs, and their General Manager Torsten Wiesinger, who we have interviewed before on several occasions. Torsten kindly provided us with multiple product demonstrations, starting with LUCID’s 10GigE Triton camera. We returned to the booth soon after to see their latest sensor developments, including a Sony sensor based on Prophesee’s technology. “[It is] an event-based camera which is very helpful for applications where you have to think about fast movement,” Torsten said.

Lastly, we paid a visit to the FRAMOS stand, where their Director of Product Management Nathan Dinning, led their ‘From Sensor to Success’ presentation, along with a range of new innovations. This included groundbreaking sensor technology developed by Sony. “FRAMOS is very well known for being one of the largest Sony distributors in the world,” Nathan said, before showing us the IMX 811 sensor, one of the largest sensors available. “It is SLVS-EC 3.0 compatible, which is a new standard from Sony.”

All-in-all, we recorded 26 video interviews during our three days at VISION, allowing us to introduce our readers to a host of new technologies. Along with those mentioned above, we also spoke to representatives at Midopt, Pleora Technologies, Edmund Optics, Photoneo, and many more. We would like to thank everyone who took part in these interviews, and our readers who have watched and shared the videos.
