Hyster Leads The Way on Safer Worksites With Game Changing Pedestrian Awareness Camera

Hyster is turning up the dial on safety and innovation with the launch of its new Pedestrian Awareness Camera the latest breakthrough in the powerful suite of Hyster Reaction™ operator assist technologies. Designed to elevate situational awareness on the job, this advanced camera system helps operators see the unseen by accurately detecting pedestrians up to 16 feet away with a wide 110-degree field of view

But this isn’t just about seeing, it is about reacting. The system springs into action the moment a pedestrian is detected, delivering real-time alerts through audible cues, visual indicators, and optional traction control. A voice alert calls out the presence of a pedestrian, while a light on the operator’s remote shows exactly which zone they’re in. With traction alerts engaged, the system even begins to automatically slow the lift truck, mimicking the feel of taking your foot off the accelerator a subtle but powerful nudge that prompts the operator to steer clear or apply the brakes.

“Situational awareness is everything when it comes to safety,” says Steven LaFevers, Vice President, Global Emerging Technology at Hyster. “We designed the pedestrian awareness solution to work seamlessly with how operators think and move. It’s intuitive, responsive, and most importantly built for real-world environments, from busy lumber yards to rugged construction sites.”

Backed by thousands of hours of worksite data, the camera is fine-tuned to perform in dynamic conditions from bright or dim lighting, indoor or outdoor applications, and optimal performance at travel speeds of 5 mph or less. It mounts on the rear, forks-trailing side of the lift truck, and disengages alerts automatically once the pedestrian is out of sight.

Available in multiple configurations, worksites can tailor the system to their needs from basic audible and visual alerts, all the way to full-on traction alert integration for a next-level safety boost.

This new tech joins the growing Hyster Reaction™ family smart, responsive tools that transform forklift operation with real-time feedback from the environment and equipment status. Since its initial launch in 2021, Hyster Reaction has racked up more than 24 million hours of runtime across 8,300+ units worldwide.

They are taking our workplace safety seriously and they are just getting started.
