Fraunhofer intends to promote cooperation with potential for research, development and practice with its ‘Craft meets Science’ workshop.
The ‘Craft Meets Science’ workshop promotes the exchange and networking of specialists from both areas. From September 26th to October 24th, Fraunhofer will be developing practical innovations for the trades in small teams.
The joint projects can be further developed as start-ups and funded by Fraunhofer’s partners. These include the Duisburg Economic Development Agency Business & Innovation (DBI), the District Craftsmen’s Association of Duisburg, the Center for Start-ups and Innopreneurship at the University of Duisburg-Essen (GUIDE/UDE), the research coordination of the Faculty of Engineering at the UDE and the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems IMS.
The participants from the craft businesses benefit from a unique collaboration with specialists in science. They can digitise their own companies and make them future-proof, develop innovative solutions for specific problems and receive funding for their projects. At the same time, exciting topics from research and development can be applied and potential research projects can be identified, which can be deepened, for example, in final theses at the university and with the help of funding applications. In this way, the cooperation between science and practice should be further intensified.
On Monday, September 26th, the workshop will start at 3:30 p.m. in the Fraunhofer-inHaus-Zentrum, one of the “showcases” of the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Handwerk. After finding a topic and team, there will be a networking phase with snacks and drinks. From September 27 to October 23, the participants will work in teams on their digital projects. They are accompanied and supported by the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Handwerk and its partners. The aim is to develop first results and prototypes by the second meeting after this workshop phase on Monday, October 24th. During the presentation, the joint projects will be evaluated by a jury and the winners will be awarded.
Please note that the number of participants in the event is limited. Fraunhofer recommends that potential visitors register online soon. Inspiration for possible projects and topics can be found on the registration page on the right under »Info«. Participants can also submit their own ideas in advance by writing a message under »Other«.
