Baumer has expanded the capabilities of its OX series smart 2D profile sensors, introducing an enhanced toolset designed to tackle more complex inspection and positioning applications that previously required high-end camera systems or multiple sensors.
The updated OX series analyses height profiles directly within the sensor, allowing users to perform tasks such as presence detection, completeness checks and quality inspection without the need for an external processing unit. The onboard processing delivers results including OK/NOK decisions, object counts and position data, helping to simplify system design and reduce overall costs.
Baumer says the enhanced sensors can identify gaps, missing components and defective parts while offering measuring ranges of up to 500 mm and fields of view of up to 300 mm. Profile data can be captured with a precision of up to 5 µm in the Z-axis and a resolution of up to 30 µm in the X-axis.
The upgraded OX series also features an intuitive web interface with live visualisation, allowing users to configure and optimise measurement tasks directly within the sensor. With support for Power-over-Ethernet and a range of industrial communication protocols, the sensors are designed for straightforward integration into automated production environments.
The announcement further strengthens Baumer’s Smart Vision portfolio, offering manufacturers a cost-effective alternative for inspection and positioning tasks that rely on height profile analysis rather than conventional image-based vision systems.
