SP1 has created a new video tutorial, see below, to show how its stereo vision system can be used with HALCON 13 from MVTec. It shows how a cylinder can be detected with HALCON from the 3D point cloud that is provided by SP1 and its Karmin stereo camera.
SP1 points out that capturing 3D image data is typically just the first step in a 3D image processing chain. Once the 3D data has been acquired, sophisticated algorithms are needed for performing the desired detection, or analysis task in a machine vision application.
One of the most popular tools for developing such machine vision applications is HALCON by MVTec. With the newly released version 13, HALCON just extended its support for 3D image processing. It also greatly simplifies the integration with the SP1 stereo vision system, by adding support for a new 3D point cloud pixel format.
