Allied Vision launches two new Alvium camera series with FPD-Link III (Flat Panel Display Link) and GMSL2 (Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link) interface. With the new cameras, Allied Vision offers a way to bypass the limited cable length of the CSI-2 cameras.
The Alvium FP3 and Alvium GM2 cameras allow long cable lengths and have robust housings and connectors. With a large selection of over 30 high-quality CMOS global and rolling shutter sensors, Allied Vision offers a wide range of FPD-Link III and GMSL2 cameras that enable data transmission with increased range based on the CSI-2 standard make possible. Any CSI-2 Alvium camera can now be ordered as an Alvium FP3 or Alvium GM2 camera.
Advantages for embedded vision applications
Many applications in robotics, logistics and medical technology can be solved using embedded image processing systems with CSI-2 cameras. These systems benefit from low weight and size as well as low power consumption and are characterized by data transmission with minimal latency. However, there are also many limitations such as limited cable lengths, open housings and complicated connectors. Alternative camera interfaces without such restrictions often cannot keep up with the mentioned advantages of CSI-2 or are associated with significantly higher system costs.
The Alvium FP3 cameras with FPD-Link III (Flat Panel Display Link) interface and the Alvium GM2 cameras with GMSL2 (Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link) interface have been developed to overcome the limitations of the standard CSI-2 cameras . The CSI-2-based closed-body cameras have an integrated serializer and a robust coaxial FAKRA connector for thin coaxial cables.
The cameras combine the following advantages:

- 2 GPIOs that can be used both via the coaxial cable and via a separate I/O connection

The installation and operation of Alvium FP3/GM2 coax cameras requires in-depth knowledge of the technologies for FPD-Link III and for GMSL2. Therefore, Allied Vision also offers the system configuration as a service.
The cameras have been tested and support NVIDIA® Jetson platforms based on JetPack 4.6.2 for Jetson AGX Xavier™ and Jetson Xavier NX and JetPack 5.1.1 for Jetson AGX Orin™ and Orin™ NX.
