SmartRay has introduced a significant advancement in industrial 3D scanning with the release of the ECCO X 025 Dual-Head sensor, the first in its ECCO X range to incorporate dual-head technology for occlusion-free inspection.
In traditional 3D laser triangulation, a single camera can struggle with occlusions, situations where raised or complex surface geometries block the sensor’s line of sight, leading to missing or distorted data. SmartRay’s new sensor addresses this with a second camera head, positioned symmetrically to the first, allowing it to capture data from different angles and maintain consistent visibility across all surfaces.
The result is a system capable of 100% inspection coverage, even on challenging parts like reflective metals, deep recesses, or high-contrast geometries, all while maintaining metrology-grade precision.
The ECCO X 025 Dual-Head supports:
- Up to 40 kHz scan rates
- 4096 3D points per profile
- A 25mm field of view and 20mm measurement range
- lc 3R laser safety classification
- A 450 nm “brilliant blue” laser for enhanced precision on shiny surfaces
SmartRay says the new sensor is particularly well-suited for applications where standard 3D sensors often fall short. In automotive manufacturing, for example, components like battery trays or structural parts require high-speed, high-accuracy inspection of complex, reflective surfaces. In semiconductor and electronics industries, features like conductor wire bonding, BGA arrays, and PCBAs demand both resolution and reliability; something the dual-head system is designed to deliver.
