Teledyne FLIR has introduced the latest additions to its Blackfly S GigE camera line – the BFS-PGE-50S4M-C and BFS-PGE-50S4C-C. Weighing 53 grams, it’s the lightest weight camera with IMX547 in the company’s portfolio.

The Blackfly S leverages what Teldyne FLIR states are the “industry’s most advanced sensors in an ice-cube form factor”. The cameras use both automatic and precise manual control over image capture and on-camera pre-processing. On-camera features include IEEE1588 clock synchronization and full compatibility with popular third-party software supporting GigE Vision.

GigE models, such as the BFS-PGE-50S4M-C and BFS-PGE-50S4C-C featuring Lossless Compression (LLC) are also available with higher maximum frame rates and lower bandwidth requirements, helping maximize output without compromising image quality. The Blackfly S is available in GigE, USB3, cased, and board-level versions.

Teledyne FLIR says the 5 MP models of the BFS-PGE-50S4M-C and BFS-PGE-50S4C-C are particularly well suited for integration into small handheld devices with their low weight and high pixel density ideal for integrating with compact, less expensive lenses.

Leveraging Sony’s IMX547 sensor they deliver low-light performance with quantum efficiency and very low absolute sensitivity making them suitable for a range of challenging applications from biometrics to scientific research and more.

The new GigE cameras, which come in a colour model and a mono model, with power over ethernet, also take advantage of the company’s “Lossless Compression” feature, delivering a 25% higher frame rate of 30 FPS without compromising on image quality.

Teledyne FLIR notes that it cleans and assembles all its machine vision camera optical assemblies in an ISO certified clean environment (ISO7 – Class 10000) so that researchers, manufacturers, diagnosticians and other users in specialized fields know the imaging devices are free from any particles that might obstruct or blur a magnified sample.

This standard level of dust control is sufficient for most uses however, some applications require an even higher standard. In such cases, the company’s Enhanced Dust Control Service is available on all area scan machine vision cameras except Blackfly S Board Level (USB3/GigE) and Firefly models.
